A children’s charity has received a boost following a year-round fundraising effort.
Charlie House, which supports children living in and near Aberdeen with disabilities and life-limiting conditions, has received a donation of more than £11,000 from Proserv. The energy services company chose the charity as its beneficiary for fundraising efforts of 2016.
Employees in the company’s Westhill, Echt, Dyce and Tullos bases took on a number of challenges and events to raise a total of £11,083. Efforts included an off-road cycle through Aberdeenshire and a Great British Bake Off-style cooking competition. Other efforts included a race night, as well as a quiz evening and sweepstakes. An annual sponsored cycle from Aboyne to Mount keen was one of the chief fundraising efforts. This involved 15 members of staff enduring a 35-mile off-road route.
Lynn Batham, of Charlie House, said: “We are extremely grateful to Proserv for this very generous donation, in the current climate. The staff and everyone involved in the fundraising events should be very proud of this achievement. Our relationship with Proserv has been invaluable in helping us raise our profile. Their donation will go a long way to help us continue the support we provide to our families, making their lives that bit easier.”
Charlie House puts on a number of activities and projects to support youngsters. This includes short breaks and a monthly Saturday club. The charity is also raising funds to build a respite care centre. Proserv’s charities committee chose Charlie House because work undertaken by the charity touched the hearts of many of its workforce.
Iain Smith, regional president of UK and Europe at Proserv, said it was “fantastic” to raise so much money. He said: “It is a pleasure to be able to support such a worthwhile charity that provides support to both children and their families. A lot of effort went in throughout the year from staff across all our bases in the North-east. I’m thrilled by what we have achieved through our team work and spirit.”
